My Epson receipt printer isn't working.

Summary
The Epson receipt printer has stopped working and will no longer print receipts.

Solution
There are a number of possible reasons why your receipt printer may not be working. You should check each of the possible causes described below.

  1. Ensure a till roll has been inserted correctly into the receipt printer.
  2. Ensure the power cable is fully inserted and plugged in to a power socket with the power switched on.
  3. Ensure the USB cable is inserted into the printer and into a USB port in your computer.
  4. Ensure the receipt printer is switched on (green power light is on).

In Schools Cash Office, select Configuration | System Options | Device. Ensure you have selected Receipt Printer in the What type of receipt printer is fitted? field.  The value in the Printer name field should be the default of ReceiptPrinter (capital R and P without spaces).
IMPORTANT - the printer device name must be configured identically in both the Epson configuration utility and in SCO.

Ensure you have switched on the printer before starting Schools Cash Office.

Configure the printer to print from multiple applications (e.g. SCO and SCO Dinner Money). In Schools Cash Office, select Configuration | System Options | Device. Ensure that the Allow receipt print from multiple applications? field is ticked.

IMPORTANT - the printer device name must be configured identically in the Epson configuration utility and in SCO.

  1. Click on Start | All Programs | OPOS | SetupPOS Ver2.00.
  2. Expand Device, expand POSPrinter.
  3. Click on the printer name – the LDN name ReceiptPrinter will be displayed in the right hand window.  Ensure this reads ReceiptPrinter (capital R and P without spaces).  If the LDN is not correct, right-click on the printer name (in the right hand pane) and click on Rename LDN.  Type in the correct name and press Enter.  Close the Setup window.
  4. Start Schools Cash Office and log in.
  5. Click on Configuration | System Options | Device.
  6. Ensure Receipt Printer is selected in the What type of receipt printer is fitted? field.
  7. Ensure ReceiptPrinter (capital R and P without spaces) is typed in the Printer name field.
  8. Click on Done.
  9. Exit Schools Cash Office to apply the settings.
  10. Start Schools Cash Office and log in.
  11. Test the printer by clicking on Audit | Income and Expenditure Log, select any transaction to display the View transaction window.  Click on Print.
  12. Check printer communication:
  13. Click on Start | All Programs | OPOS |  SetupPOS Ver2.00
  14. Expand Device, expand POSPrinter.
  15. Right-click on the printer and click on CheckHealth Interactive.
  16. Click on Start.  A test line should be printed on the receipt printer and a success message displayed on the screen.
  17. If this is not successful the PC is not communicating with the printer. Close the CheckHealth Interactive window and proceed to the next step – Uninstall and Reinstall printer drivers
  18. Uninstall and re-install printer drivers

If the printer communication test fails, re-installing the printer drivers may help.  Click on Start | All Programs | OPOS | SetupPOS Ver2.00.

If none of the above options resolve the issue, there may be a hardware fault with your PC or the receipt printer. To check whether the receipt printer has a hardware fault try installing on a different PC.
